Searching for a "dog behaviorist" usually means one thing: your dog already knows sit, and the problem is what happens when the doorbell rings, another dog appears on the sidewalk, or a stranger reaches toward the couch. That is behavior, not obedience, and it needs a different approach.
A veterinary behaviorist (DACVB) is a veterinarian who can prescribe medication. There are only a handful in Ohio and waitlists run months. A "dog behaviorist" in everyday use means a trainer who specializes in behavior modification: changing how a dog feels and responds to triggers, not just teaching commands. That is what we do at our Obetz training facility, ten minutes from downtown Columbus. Medication has its place, and we will tell you if we think your vet should be involved. Most aggressive, reactive and anxious dogs we see do not need a prescription. They need structure, clear communication, and hundreds of controlled repetitions with the trigger.

Why Behavior Modification Works Better as Board and Train
Weekly one-hour lessons cannot fix a behavior that gets rehearsed twenty times a day at home. In our board and train programs, your dog lives with our trainers and works several sessions a day: controlled exposure to triggers, obedience under distraction, and new default behaviors that replace the old ones. Then we teach you. The handoff lessons are where the change sticks.

5-Day Board and Train — $1,250. Foundation obedience and early behavior work. Best for mild reactivity or dogs under one year.
10-Day Board and Train — $2,400. Our most common program for reactivity, anxiety and moderate aggression.
15-Day Board and Train — $3,450. Serious aggression, bite histories, multi-issue dogs.

We do not promise a "cured" dog, and you should walk away from anyone who does. What we deliver is a dog with a reliable off-switch, an owner who knows how to use it, and a management plan for the situations that remain risky. We refer to a veterinary behaviorist if we think medication should be part of the plan.
Do you take dogs with a bite history?
Yes. We evaluate every dog in person first, but a bite history does not disqualify a dog from our board and train programs.
